Volunteer Markham is looking for committed, dedicated and outgoing students who enjoy public speaking and are passionate about volunteering. As a Youth Volunteerism Ambassador, you will be part of a team of students in Markham who will promote volunteering in their schools. 
Duties include: 
Work with other students to organize volunteer information presentations and fairs in your school; Utilize a variety of promotional/marketing opportunities to promote the Change the World Campaign here in Markham and how youth can get involved; Connect students to volunteer opportunities with non-profit organizations and keep track of their involvement; Be part of the Change the World challenge and encourage others to participate.

HF gala volunteer opportunity. Gala will take place at Hilton Spa and Conference on June 16th. There are 109 spots open.  
HF is an ethno-cultural mental health organization which was founded in 1982. HF's mission is to work with communities to keep them mentally healthy and manage mental illness from recovery to wellness, through promotion and prevention, treatment, capacity building and advocacy. This year's gala is for Youth Mental Health. 
The last day to sign up would be May 1st. via the link ( and the positions will be assigned based on the sequence of your registration 
Lunch and dinner provided. Orientation and training provided.  
For our high school volunteers, school volunteer hour forms will be signed for submission. 
For 20's and 30's volunteers, mentorship programs in various fields will be provided when requested.  
For all volunteers, introduction to mental health first-aid certificate programs and health ambassador certificate programs will be provided when requested.

Various tasks exist which makes volunteering easy for all ages, abilities, and availabilities! Examples of work to be done include being a route marshal or handing out food and water on run day or distributing/taking down posters and pledge sheet holders around the community in the months leading up to the run. 
We require volunteers for the 35th annual Markham-Unionville Terry Fox Run that is taking place on Sunday September 17, 2017 for the following roles: 
- route marshal (guiding and cheering along participants on the route and at the start and finish lines) 
- site set up and take down 
- other (ad hoc activities on site)

We work with the students to host a “Dance Marathon” event at their school. This is a 4-12 hour event that consists of students standing in symbolic support of their local sick and injured children through games, line dancing, activities and entertainment. We are looking for students to become Dance Marathon Ambassadors and bring this movement to their school!

Groups of volunteers may donate community service hours to assist with beautifying the parks and green spaces within Markham. Maps, gloves and garbage bags are provided. Suitable for church, community or corporate groups. Groups must provide their own leaders to supervise people as well as refreshments. 
Other stewardship activities such as invasive species control and tree mulching, are possible depending on time of year and group size. 
Events:Keep Markham Beautiful Month in April, Ongoing Clean Ups, Adopt-A-Park program in Spring and Fall.
