Is flexibility in your schedule important to you? Yes? Then our Habitat for Humanity Greater Toronto Area ReStore Volunteer opportunity is for you! 
 
Our ReStores sell new and gently-used renovation and household materials at great prices. ReStore proceeds support Habitat’s mission of mobilizing volunteers and communities to help working, lower income families build strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable home ownership.  
 
What you need to know: 
• There’s something for everyone to do, regardless of skill level.  
• An orientation session is required before your first volunteer shift 
• All volunteers must be a minimum of 14 years old. Volunteers aged 14 or 15 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian for every shift 
• Volunteers under the age of 18 require a waiver signed by a parent or guardian 
• Minimum shift is 4 hours. Morning, afternoon, weekend and evening shifts are available. Shifts are self-scheduled via online registration.

Position Requirements: 
• Tasks include but are not limited to product display, pricing, assembly and repair 
• Due to the physical nature of some of the tasks required, ReStore volunteers may be asked to lift heavy objects (bathroom fixtures, windows, doors, etc.) 
• Please bring your own steel-toe boots when you volunteer at our ReStores. We only have a limited number available to borrow and without them you will not be able to volunteer. 
• Come with a willingness to learn from experienced volunteers and staff and to work as part of a team. A positive attitude, enthusiasm, flexibility and a sense of humour is always key! Tasks are not always glamorous, so be prepared to do a variety of things.

Habitat’s mission is to mobilize volunteers and communities to help working, lower income families build strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable homeownership. 
 
What you need to know: 
• Volunteers are not required to have prior building experience 
• Onsite training is provided by our skilled Crew Leaders  
• We build 12 months a year, Monday to Saturday 
• All safety equipment is provided onsite 
• Volunteers must be a minimum of 16 years old to build 
• Volunteers under the age of 18 require a waiver signed by a parent or guardian 
• Minimum shift is 8 hours, from 8:00 am – 4:00pm, Monday through Saturday. Shifts are self-scheduled via online registration 
• You can volunteer for one day or on a regular basis 
 
Position Requirements: 
• Able to learn to use construction tools and equipment with training and supervision 
• Ability to lift 20-30lbs 
• Assist in providing a safe and healthy working environment 
• Willingness to learn from experienced volunteers and staff

Groups of volunteers may donate community service hours to assist with beautifying the parks and green spaces within Markham. Maps, gloves and garbage bags are provided. Other stewardship activities such as invasive species control and tree mulching, are possible depending on time of year and group size.
